Meet Whitney
Whitney was on the edge of eviction when she reached out to The Care Service for help. She had been working remotely for a call center until her employer announced a mandatory on-site policy. Unable to afford childcare for her three young daughters, she made the tough decision to resign from her job and began looking for a new one. The loss of income made her unable to pay her rent.
The Care Service stepped in to provide the financial support Whitney needed to avoid eviction. Once the immediate threat of losing their home was gone, Case Manager Ellen connected Whitney to a range of additional resources, including applying for food stamps and utility assistance, enrolling her into The Care Service’s food pantry, getting clothing vouchers for the girls, and more.
Ellen worked with Whitney to review her expenses and create a budget. She also encouraged Whitney to look for more stable employment that would align with her childcare needs. Fortunately, the girls’ father rejoined the household and began picking up work. His emotional and financial support has significantly eased Whitney's burden.
Ellen has been particularly impressed by Whitney's devotion as a mother. She communicates thoughtfully with her children, always explaining the reasons behind her requests rather than simply issuing commands. Her children have developed a strong bond with Ellen, who specializes in children and family development. The girls are always excited to see Ellen during her visits to their home, especially three-year-old Harlow. One day, after waking from her nap, Harlow found Ellen in the living room, and in her excitement, dragged Ellen outside to show off the family’s chicken coop. Six-year-old Lorelai, curious and eager to learn, has been practicing how to spell Ellen’s name.
Last Christmas, Ellen enrolled Whitney’s family in The Care Service’s Adopt-A-Family Christmas program. In addition to a holiday meal, the girls also got the toys they wanted. Lorelai loves to show off the makeup box she received, which includes a purple nail polish that she loves.
Today, Whitney and her partner are paying rent on time and raising their children together. They just had a lovely Easter, and Whitney is so proud to provide a stable life for her girls.
