Meal Maker Kits

THE NEED

Each week nearly 300 households rely on The Care Service’s three food pantries to meet their basic nutritional needs. Like many of us, some evenings they just want a meal that is easy to put together with ingredients on hand.

THE SOLUTION

To make mealtimes easier, The Care Service Food Pantry Program has kicked off a Meal Maker Kit project. When shopping in our pantry, clients may select a Meal Maker Kit rather than separate food items. Each prepackaged box contains all the non-perishable items required to make a healthy recipe, including the recipe. To complete the necessary ingredients, The Care Service will provide the perishable items necessary for the recipe.

A Meal Maker Kit might include a box of Chicken Helper, a can of chicken, a can of fruit, a canned vegetable, and a package of cookies for dessert. Another kit may have a box of pasta, a jar of pasta sauce, a package of pepperoni, canned fruit, canned vegetable, powdered drink mix, and a box of graham crackers.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Donations of non-perishable items for recipes are needed. Financial contributions are also welcome to help cover the cost of the perishable items.

To Donate a Meal Maker Kit

Print a recipe from our website recipe list or make a copy of your own favorite go-to family-friendly casserole or meal.

Purchase the non-perishable items needed for the recipe (noted in the shopping list portion of our recipes).

Place all items in a bag and attach the recipe to the bag. (The Care Service will provide the perishable items needed for the recipe.)

If you would like to make a family’s meal a bit more special, you may choose to include powdered drink mix, canned fruit, cookies, crackers, etc.

Meal Maker Kit ingredients may be dropped off Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm at The Care Service, 4116 McClay Rd, St. Charles, MO 63304.
