Meet Julia

All Stories

For more than seven years, Julia lived in survival mode.

Fleeing an abusive husband with two young daughters and having no family to lean on, Julia cycled in an out of domestic violence shelter while her ex-husband continued searching for her. Escaping domestic violence was especially difficult as a mother — Julia couldn’t just pack a bag and drive off, she also had to think about where her children could sleep.

The violence Julia endured left her with permanent brain injury. She requires ongoing medical attention and can’t sustain working long hours, making it even harder to find work that could cover rent for herself and her girls.

Fortunately, Julia was connected to The Care Service. Case Manager Claire helped Julia apply for disability income and SNAP benefits, brought food from The Care Service Food Pantry, and worked with Julia on personal goal planning. Right now, Julia’s next goal is to save for a car.

With Clarie’s help, Julia found a two-bedroom apartment within her price range for her and the girls. The Care Service covered her deposit and first month’s rent. With a roof over their heads, Julia and her daughters finally have a safe place to call home after years of uncertainty.
