Kylie built up the courage to pack a bag and leave her abusive boyfriend. It was a brave step, but it came at a heavy cost. Domestic violence had taken a toll on both her physical and mental health, and once she left, the reality of having nowhere safe to go made everything even harder.
For many of us, safety, rest, and stability are part of everyday life. For Kylie, they felt impossible to regain.
Kylie was staying at a shelter when she found The Care Service. She knew what she wanted: a place of her own, and a door she could lock. She was searching for affordable housing within her limited budget, knowing how rare those opportunities can be. At just the right moment, one of the affordable homes owned by The Care Service became available.
With a safe, stable home, Kylie began to reclaim parts of her life that trauma had taken from her. Today, she is healthier both physically and mentally. She eats regularly and works out. She is no longer in survival mode and is always smiling now.
Good health was something Kylie had to fight her way back to, and with it came confidence and hope. She began noticing the world again. She learned to crochet, she’s thinking about going back to school, and she’s interviewing for higher-paying jobs that could help her build a future, and maybe one day welcome a puppy into her own home.
“It [The Care Service] changed my life,” Said Kylie. “I don’t know what my life would look like without them. I might still be moving from one shelter to another. I’ve gotten so much more than just a home. I stay at my home most of the time, I love being at home! I’m extremely thankful for it every day.”
