Food Programs
Operation of the largest food pantry in the area requires
many volunteers. Over 75 volunteers show up weekly to sort food,
prepare bags of food, and help distribute the food and household goods to
the 168 registered families who qualify under our income guidelines. Our pantry program provides a weekly distribution to low-income families and
individuals who do not have the means for adequate food or toiletries.
In some cases, the distribution from our pantry is the only food in the
home. On a weekly basis we provide canned and dry goods, bakery and
dairy products, produce, meat, and nutritional supplements. We provide
paper and personal hygiene products on a monthly basis as available.
The Pantry also participates in the Shriners' Circus Angels
program, Girl Scouts April Showers, Boy Scouts Scouting for Food, and Post
Office Stamp Out Hunger. For Easter we provide hams and Easter
Baskets. We provide new school supplies each year for our registered
children in grades K thru 12. We also participate in the Knights of
Columbus "No Hunger Holiday" at Thanksgiving. We are also
supported by many community and civic groups, local schools and individual
families in our community.
Weekly contact with our families provides an opportunity for
us to nurture in a caring, hopeful environment. By providing food
assistance the Care Service allows the families to use their financial
resources for other household necessities such as utilities and
transportation. The ensures that the families are stable, and working
towards independence.
