Adopt-a-Family
Christmas
Through your generosity, you
will be abvle to provide a joyous Christmas for families who otherwise will have
a very bleak holiday or possibly none at all.
Our families range from single
persons (seniors and/or handicapped) to families of ten or twelve. You may
choose any size family you desire (we have in excess of 550 families to be
adopted).
If you choose to adopt a family,
you will be provided with the first name of each family member as well as their
age and a gift suggestion or needs. You will be asked to provide new gifts
(as many or as few as you desire) for every member of the family. These
gifts should be wrapped with a name card attached indicating the family member
it is intended for.
You will also be asked to
provide a Christmas dinner, which should include one of the following: a
frozen turkey, or a gift certificate for a turkey. To complete the meal,
please include a box of instant potatoes and/or a box of stuffing, a can of
gravy, two or three vegetables, cranberries, a cake mix and frosting, or a pie
crust mix and pie filling, or whatever you think would make a nice Christmas
dinner.
In addition, if you choose, you
may send as many staple foods as you feel you are able (rice, pasta, cereals,
canned meats, soups, etc.). Also, ppaer products, cleaners, and personal
items are always needed. These last suggestions are necessities many
families cannot purchase with food stamps and therefore often go without.
You will be asked not
to include eggs, fresh milk, frozen pies, or other perishables. We have
found these items have become a disaster in the packing and unpacking process.
We hope this information will
give you an idea of what the Adopt-a-Family Program is all about.
This year Adopt-a-Family weekend is December 12th, 13th, and 14th.
It will be held at St. Charles Community College on Mid Rivers Drive in St.
Peters.
